OUR CHARITY

About the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity.

The Thomas Cook Children’s Charity, Thomas Cook’s very own grant making charity, was set up with the aim of improving children’s lives, both here in the UK and overseas.

Since 2009, we have raised more than £7 million for charities that work with children in the UK and overseas by offering customers the opportunity to donate when they book a holiday; collecting unwanted coins in store and on return flights to the UK with our airline; and through employee fundraising efforts.

The charity’s funds raised are donated to good causes focused on improving children’s lives – by helping to improve access to and facilities for education, well-being and health care.

Over the past year, many of our customers have made donations and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed, no matter how big or small.

OUR AIM

Improving Children’s Lives by working with Charity Partners.

The aim of the Thomas Cook’s Children’s Charity is to improve children’s lives and benefit the communities in which they live by working with Charity Partners that seek to benefit the lives of young people (up to the age of 18).

We aim to help children and enhance each individual life by focusing on the below areas:

  • Improving education facilities
  • Improving facilities that provide well-being and health care

The Children’s Charity also supports relief efforts in the event of natural disasters. The Trustees view this as a discretionary fund for which there is no open application process.

We have established ourselves as a Corporate Charity; funds are raised by employees and customers of Thomas Cook UK & Ireland. Both groups are encouraged to nominate charitable causes / projects which meet the above criteria for funding from the charity.

Thomas Cook UK & Ireland cannot benefit from any of the funds raised. Therefore, we work with, Happy Days Children’s Charity, to help us meet our aims when we get requests for holidays and trips.

OUR APPROACH

Our employees and customers can support the charity by taking part in individual and group challenge events; including sponsored walks, hikes, marathons, bike rides and skydives.

Customers are given the option to include a £3 donation on top of the cost of their holiday when they book in-store and online.

Customers also have the opportunity to donate unwanted coins in-store and on return flights to the UK. Within some of our holiday destinations, our reps will also run fundraising evenings to further raise awareness and funds for the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity.

Charity Partners are nominated by both customers and employees of Thomas Cook UK & Ireland each year. There is no open application process. Please get in touch with Aoife McDonogh, Charitable Relations Manager (thomascook.childrenscharity@thomascook.com) if you wish to nominate a charity to support.
